TLB: What would you like The Leaky Boob readers to know about you?
I am a mama of three children who have grown much too fast… I have a thirteen year old boy, a nine year old girl and my baby just turned five. All breastfed until they weaned themselves, and I actually need to go out and buy a non-nursing bra now. I nursed for almost 12 years total. Weaning can be very hard on mama – I need to make myself a weaning bracelet!
I’m a doula and have a Certificate in Breastfeeding Counselling from Douglas College. I attended my first birth when I was six months pregnant, and started my breastfeeding training when my oldest was 2 months old. We learned everything together.
I am also a reiki master, part-time writer, an herbalist & aromatherapist in the wise woman tradition, wife, sci-fi geek, chai tea enthusiast, moonwise woman and wild mother!
TLB: What was the path that led you to start Wild Mother Arts?
Wild Mother Arts has grown naturally out of my love for celebrating and supporting women’s rites of passage. I started by creating jewelry for mother blessings (also called blessingways) for my friends and doula clients. Making special pieces for them to wear during labor and birth was so fulfilling that it became a passion for me just like birth, and now I make jewelry that is practical and meaningful from the first visit to the red tent to fertility, birth, breastfeeding and beyond. I’m planning on branching out this year – I’m writing a book, an e-course, and have some other projects on the horizon, too.
TLB: How has your breastfeeding experience impacted you?
In so many ways. I knew I wanted to breastfeed. I thought I was prepared. I had midwives, went to LLL meetings, talked to people, read all the books… and at the beginning it was the most challenging experience of my life. And I did it. I nursed for nearly 12 years and it was a very healing experience for me. I’m hoping to write more about my experiences soon.
TLB: What is your favorite breastfeeding tip?
Create a circle of wise women who have nursed their babies that you can call anytime, or who can visit you in those first few months. Surrounding yourself with supportive people is so important. And if you can’t find that where you live, join a virtual circle of wise women like The Leaky B@@b! Whenever and wherever you can get the support and information you need to succeed.

A nursing necklace is worn by mamas while breastfeeding to capture baby’s attention when they get to the distracted phase of nursing, and to discourage pinching, tugging, or twiddling on mama! I just had baby #2. My first is 6 and I had a really hard time getting to #2. I had 2 miscarriages, visited the fertility dr, have an incompetent cervix and a bicorniate uterus. So I was definitely High risk this time. I am so happy to have my lil guy. He is almost 6 weeks and I LOVE every minute spent nursing. My first was a preemie (10wks) and much of that time was spent worrying about her. Thank you for reading 🙂

Three months ago, my son was born via c-section, and I am beyond grateful that he is healthy. Though my body is well on it’s way to full revovery, I have not healed from the ordeal, mentally and emotionally. Thus, I am hoping to win the Mamalove necklace. I could definately use the healing, self-love, peace and calm.

I’d love to win the rose quartz one. I’ve been trying to get pregnant for almost 3 years now. I have five children already so you wouldnt think it was a big deal but my urge to mother and nurse is like a longing in the soul. It has not yet dissipated. And I love being an example to the world, that you can mother, nurse, and be beautiful and love every minute of it! All my babies weaned themselves by one year, my last at 10 mths!!! She literally would not keep still to nurse, she was not having it. So I think inside I’m not ready to wean lol. I need all the blessings I can get…thank you. (the amber one is also gourgeous.)

I am torn between the amber and the spring time daisy. I wore amber earrings during the births of my children. In Norse mythology amber is associated to Frejya, the goddess of fertility and beauty. The Norse also believed that amber had a healing effect to the blood. It was believed that pulverized amber could stop bleeding in childbirth.
The Spring time daisys remind me of my children. Fun and Free spirits.

I love all three but the rose quartz and amber ones are my favorite! I have a 5 1/2 month old and I’ve had to go from wearing at least two necklaces to none for fear of him hurting himself, ripping them off, choking, etc. Having decided to be a stay at home mom has been an amazing choice, but it does not afford me the opportunity to buy anything like this. To win one would be amazing!!!

Although amber is my FAV stone, I looove the mamalove. I’ve just gone thru a divorce and am currently breeding a 1 mnth old. She’s my third baby (all breastfed) and I think the calmness, & love promotion the rose quartz brings is definitely needed for my soul right now. 🙂

I really like the Daisychain. I really think a nursing necklace would be great for us. My daughter pulls her hair out, litterally, when she nurses. So I was thinking if she had something else to distract herself with, she would stop doing that.

Love them all! The Daisy Chain really grasps my eye, so I’ve no doubt it would distract LO, too. Felt better after reading other mom’s comments about their “aggressive” nurselings as I’ve also often been savaged during feedings by my sweet 6 month old daughter…..
