TLB: What should TLB readers know about Making Mamas Milk as a company and your product?
Dori: I really hope people know how much effort and caring I put into those cookies. I really care about each person as an individual and care that they have a fighting chance at breastfeeding for as long as they choose! I also make sure I use only the best ingredients even if it means losing money.
TLB: How did you come to start Making Mamas Milk and when did you start?
Dori: I started the company in August 2011. I wanted to help my husband be able to being money into our household since I was able to stay home with the 3 smaller children while he worked. In this economy I felt I need to be proactive. Breastfeeding is something I am doing, something I am good at, and with the knowledge I have with herbs, I knew it was a success.
TLB: Tell us about your family and how you balance your business and family.
Dori: It isn’t easy all of the time. My husband is at work for UPS fairly early in the morning, and home early too. So I am lucky when he walks in about 10am. I get his help with the children, ages 3.5, 2, and 5 months, in order to make the orders for that day. Each order is made special- no cookie cutters here. 🙂
TLB: What has your own breastfeeding journey been like?
Dori: I had a horrible time with my first 2 children. I had my 1st in 1990, and he was tongue tied, but I did not find out until he was 3 weeks old and my milk was long gone. They tried to get him to latch on when he was born but never mentioned a TT issue. My second born in 1994, and I nursed her for 2 weeks, because my now EX husband didn’t lend me any support. My last 3 children are the total opposite. My husband is so supportive about everything related to breastfeeding. He makes sure I have enough water, that I have a comfy place to nurse, etc. I have been successful for the last three.
TLB: What difficulties did you overcome and how?
Dori: The first was the TT, and then my last baby, Ethan was also born with a TT and had it clipped in the hospital. It was like night and day with the TT and how much pain it was until after it was slipped. So happy they discovered it.
TLB: What’s your favorite breastfeeding tip?
Dori: Confidence! We all need confidence. If we, as women can carry children, birth children, we can surely breastfeed them!! If you have confidence and keep sheering yourself on- you can do it.

My son will be 2 in a few days and after putting an unrealistic “deadline” (on his birthday) due to all the ridicule and hate, I have finally decided to stand up for myself and continue on until my son is ready to stop. My 15 yr old granddaughter is now, with encouragement from her Aunt(my daughter) nursing her 2 mo old son. I would Love the Chocolate Chip cookies but oatmeal is supposed to help increase your milk supply too. So, Oatmeal it is;-) Maybe add CHOCOLATE CHIPS? Lol! I have been struggling with producing enough milk for my daughter. I was diagnosed with IGT and I pump 3 times a day and I still only get 1oz to 2oz all together. I would so love to win this contest! It would be such a WONDERFUL treat to eat while I nurse=-) I also have been looking for breastmilk donors as my baby depends on other Mama’s milk too.

I ordered the 40-cookie bonus/free shipping subscription! Reading Dori’s story of bf challenges brought tears to my eyes. I’ve had to EP for both my babies (2yo DD and 4mo DS) due to tongue tie problems that weren’t completely correctable. They’re incapable of getting milk directly from nursing, and it tears me to pieces if they try. With my first, I never had enough milk and had to start supplementing with formula very early on. (I looked for donor milk but couldn’t find any.) With my DS, we had a rough start and had to use some donor milk and even an ounce of formula, but then my supply picked up and I was able to stockpile a bunch of my milk inthe freezer. But when we hit the 4-month mark, my supply suddenly started to drop and I’ve had to use some of my frozen milk. I’ve been taking More Milk Plus supplements all along, so hopefully these cookies will help me rebuild the supply. My goal is to make it to the 6-month mark with EP’ing, then start reducing how often I pump so we can have more time together as a family. And hopefully we’ll still have enough frozen milk to get us to the 1-year mark with a combination of fresh & frozen. Thanks so much to Dori and TLB for doing this giveaway!

Oatmeal raisin sounds wonderful! Chocolate doesn’t agree with my dd and these sound way yummier than fenugreek capsules. I 50% pump since I work full time so supply is always a worry.

Oatmeal raisin please! They sound delicious! I was given a lactation cookie recipe by a friend and ever-so-often actually have time to bake some. My baby just turned 1yr yesterday! We’ve had a hard up hill battle with breastfeeding and have tried everything! Along the way we found out we both have a sensitivity to fenugreek :(. He also has a slight TT issue, but per the LC’s I’ve seen, it doesn’t impede on his ability to latch and nurse properly (I’m not really sure if it has or has not though). When I have cookies (or the More Milk Two tincture formula) available, these seem to be the only things to help boost my supply. Pumping didn’t work and actually made things worse imo. Oatmeal Chocolate Chip is my favorite and I am thinking of ordering the 30 day supply of those! My daughter spent some time in the NICU when she was first born where they fed her formula and wouldn’t let me breastfeed for the first 30 hours, didnt give me a pump for the first 12, and then she had a latching problem due to being preterm which 3 months later we finally seem to be over, but we have been having to supplement with formula because my supply isn’t enough for her. I am trying the tea now, but I’m not a big fan of the taste and so far no noticable difference. It would be wonderful if I could build my supply and lose the formula due to a COOKIE! yum!
