What happens when a woman of fashion has a baby but doesn’t like the available fashion options available for maternity and breastfeeding wear?  What if she doesn’t want to give up comfort and cute to be a mom?  Can she have her cake and eat it too?  Creative arts teacher Tracey thought so and created her company Cake Lingerie so that all moms could.  TLB chats with Tracey, the founder, creative director, and head designer of Cake Lingerie.  Now with 2 children of her own, Tracey has grown her company for more women could enjoy fun and functional intimate apparel during the pregnancy and breastfeeding seasons of their mothering journey.  This innovative company can now be found in retailers around the world (including most recently Nordstroms) and online.  Personally I have 1 Cake bra and 1 lounge set and find them to be not only stylish and comfortable, but of high quality and versatile that I will be wearing these long after I am no longer nursing.  Read on to hear more from this creative entrepreneurial mom.

TLB: What should readers know about Cake?

Tracey: Cake Lingerie was created to empower pregnant and breastfeeding women! To make women look and feel great during this extraordinary period in our lives! I’m inspired and energized with every piece of feedback you send me. This drives me further to innovate and bring immense happiness to women around the world.

TLB: What is the story behind the name?

Tracey: My existing bras and nightwear no longer fit and like most women, I wanted to buy bras & sleepwear, similar to what I was used to wearing before I was pregnant. Why did I have to compromise? I was young, glowing, happily pregnant and loving my curves.

I searched high and low, on the web, in store, called my friends in other countries, but to no avail. It saddened me and made me more conscious about my body. Other women I spoke to had the same complaint.

Cake is sweet, yummy, chocolaty and satisfying. It’s these very same emotions I wanted in a name. Besides we wanted a memorable name – hence the name Cake

TLB: Is there a personal breastfeeding journey connected with Cake?

Tracey: All the Cake designers have had personal experiences with breastfeeding.  Designed by Mothers for Women we’re able to ensure the product is engineered to fulfill the needs of women during this time.

TLB: Please share your favorite tip about breastfeeding and maternity bras.

Tracey: Cake Lingerie has created bras for all stages of pregnancy and breast-feeding, as a woman’s needs will change during this time.

The Seamless bras and Tanks have been specifically designed for the first 6 weeks of pregnancy and the first 6 weeks post birth.  During this period a woman will experience rapid change in her breast size.
