Will a child breastfed for 3 years ever learn to use a cup? Are they going to be confused and have mental health issues? These mothers that breastfeed their child for years, are they selfish and in denial about their child growing up? Looking at 6 points many don’t understand about natural duration breastfeeding.
In a time when more and more teens are having more serious mental health concerns, it’s worth exploring all possible areas and asking if breastfeeding beyond infancy could be related. What about kids that remember breastfeeding, how are they not messed up? Should we be concerned that more women are breastfeeding beyond the 12 month mark and what possible problems could this cause our society?
My kids broke my tear ducts and now I cry more. They’ve also inspired me to get off my butt and do something about the situations of oppression that make me cry. Join me, let’s go change the world with our kids.

Black Breastfeeding Week is bittersweet. It says, “Hey, there is enough of an issue that World Breastfeeding Week is no longer cutting it.” If anything it’s a black versus black week; it’s about trying to change the outlook on the breastfeeding from within the black community. We need to do whatever we need to do to raise the rate of black women breastfeeding.
On August 25, 2013, the first day of the first nationally recognized Black Breastfeeding Week, I was excited to learn that one of the founding committee members, fellow breastfeeding advocate Anayah Sangodele-Ayoka, recently moved to the area where I live. Anayah is a mother of two, a graduate student, co-founder of Free to Breastfeed: Voices from Black Mothers and Brown Mamas Breastfeed and a MomsRising fellow.
