Sharing your breastfeeding horror stories may not be as supportive as you think.
At 16 weeks pregnant and fighting hyperemesis gravidarum, I get daily IVs for hydration, vitamins, calories, and meds. As I receive my nutrition, Smunchie cuddles and breastfeeds, receiving not much from me any more, but lots of comfort. Which comforts me too.
As a whole, the actions of society do not match our words: we do not, in fact, believe that breastfeeding is good for babies and their mothers. We do not, in fact, value the breastfeeding mother. We do not, in fact support breastfeeding. Even though we know support is needed.
