Did that mom celebrating her 6 month breastfeeding milestone just put all who formula feed down? Are breastfeeding advocates saying moms that don’t breastfeed don’t want the best for their babies? Could it sometimes just be a case of something being lost in translation?
The dual nature of the human breast is one that we have a really, really hard time with in most Westernized countries. Breastfeeding moms are asked to cover up or kicked out of various places, yet we use bikini clad models to sell any number of things. With the vastly sexualized nature of the breast, is it any wonder that I have client after client who is concerned that nursing will feel sexual to her, or that she won’t be able to still be attractive if she’s nursing?

Every time someone freaks out about a mother breastfeeding in public they send a loud and clear message of unsupport, no matter how supportive they claim to be. What messages are we sending mothers (and all of society) when we encourage a mom to move, cover up, or hide?
Questioning the quality of a mom’s milk is NOT supportive and it may just show how uneducated the speaker is about human lactation.
